How To Use

  • Take this medicine by mouth with a glass of water.
  • Take this medicine with or without food, preferably with food.
  • Swallow it as a whole, do not crush or chew the medicine.

Primary Uses:

Type II diabetes

Indications:

This medicine is indicated in maturity onset diabetes either alone or with sulphonylureas. It is also used as adjuvant therapy in insulin dependent diabetes, particularly in obese patients.

Side Effects:

GI upset, taste disturbance, abnormal liver function tests, hepatitis (inflammatory condition of liver), skin reactions, reduced B12 absorption are some of its side effects. Rarely it may cause lactic acidosis (buildup of lactate causing acidic pH of blood stream).

Do Not Use

Pregnancy:

This medicine is not recommended during pregnancy. Consult your doctor for more information.

Lactation:

This medicine is not recommended for nursing females. Consult your doctor for more information.

Driving:

This medicine doesn’t usually affect your driving ability. If you are experiencing trouble, please avoid driving and consult your doctor.

Liver:

This medicine should be used cautiously in liver patients. Consult your doctor for proper dose adjustment.

Kidney:

This medicine should be used cautiously in kidney patients. Consult your doctor for proper dose adjustment.

Alcohol:

Avoid excess alcohol consumption when using this medicine, it might increase the risk of lactic acidosis.

Precautions:

Assess risk factors for lactic acidosis (buildup of lactate causing acidic pH of blood stream). Discontinue immediately if metabolic acidosis (overproduction of acid in the body) is suspected. Monitor renal (kidney) function at least annually. Discontinue the medicine for 48 hours before and after the elective surgery.
